Prayer for a challenging economy

Creator God, you who worked to form the universe, you who labored to bring forth the earth into being, You who fashioned humanity in your image and likeness, hear the prayers of those who find themselves unemployed for a long time, those who have recently lost a job, who are concerned about losing their job in the future.

Worry is on the mind of many. Anxiety is the source of stress. In a culture governed by economics, in a time of high food prices, a housing slump and faltering markets, may Your Spirit breathe a gentle calm over anxious hearts and worried minds.

Grant us strength to endure the hard times, courage to believe in the determination of the human spirit; give us a vision of creativity and imagination, and hope in a life beyond financial survival. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
